Kazakh Eagle Hunters

Kazakhs are the ethnic majority in western Mongolia around the Altai Mountains. Here they preserve their tradition of hunting with trained golden eagles from horseback to catch large land mammals such as rabbits, hares, foxes and sometimes young wolves. Female chicks are taken from the nest and are trained to hunt, because they are believed to be more aggressive and weigh more than the male.
